This study has conducted to establish the optimum temperature in grafted cactuses of Gymnocalycium mihanovichii var. friedrichii and Chamaecereus silvestrii f. variegata during storage for long-distance transportation. G. mihanovichii var. friedrichii had less respiration rate and ethylene production when stored at 20℃ than at 10 and 15℃, while those in C. silvestrii f. variegata were lowest at 15℃. The stored rootstocks of G. mihanovichii var. friedrichii showed slight change in firmness with increasing the storage period and their firmness was maintained up to at least 28 days. However, the firmness of the stored scions rapidly decreased after 14 days of the storage. In both cases, the storage temperature of 20℃ was better to maintain their firmness compared the other temperatures. By contrast, the firmness decreases in the stored rootstocks and the scions of C. silvestrii f. variegata were not influenced by storage temperatures, but by the storage duration. G. mihanovichii var. friedrichii and C. silvestrii f. variegata stored at 20 and at 15℃ for 35 days, respectively, showed 100 and 97.8% survival rate, respectively, when the regeneration was examined at 2 months after planting. Thus, the optimum storage temperatures appeared to be 20 and 15℃ for G. mihanovichii var. friedrichii and C. silvestrii f. variegata, respectively.
