The purpose of this study was to explore the current status and problems of the urban area youths' leisure culture and suggest effective solutions for the problems. The study utilized qualitative approach (in-depth interviewing etc.) with open-ended questionnaires. Total of 10 urban area youths (5 boys and 5 girls) were participated in this study from the northeastern part of Seoul. The results of this study were drawn following suggestions;
1. It is important to develop leisure educational programs for the youths and schools. According to the leisure educational programs, the urban area youths can develop and utilize their perceptions on the leisure culture and services.
2. Expert-supervised leisure programs and professional leisure program leaders were required to fulfill the various demands of the youths.
3. It is necessary to expand the social environments to develop and promote the status of the leisure culture and service for the urban area youths.
In conclusion, the various social supports for the leisure culture of the urban youths were evidently required in contemporary Korean society. Because of the current social phenomena, the urban area youths have to face and overcome various types of social problems. Therefore, it is necessary to develop and provide adequate leisure culture and educational programs for the urban youths.
