To Le Corbusier, the light was a primordial condition of successful architecture and became the main theme of architecture during his career. Being conceived by the need of solar light control, Brise soleil was applied to most of his works through the studies of its function and form. It has been developed from the earlier simple functional installation into the accessible transitional space having more complex typology.
Therefore, this study aims to understand the typologies and the aspects of evolution in terms of Brise soleil in the works of Le Corbusier and the french neo Corbusian architects such as Henri Ciriani, Laurent Beaudouin and Michel Kagan. Le Corbusier's Brise soleil can be classified into several categories by some formative criteria, and those of the other architects are also qualified by means of these categories.
As a result, it is possible to clarify the relation between Corbusier and the referred architects and specific ways of different interpretation of Brise soleil by theirs own prefer types. In conclusion, Brise soleil is still an efficient method which controls the solar ray and creates emotional atmosphere not only in interior space but also on the facade, and furthermore, it is adapted to the complex aspects of contemporary architecture.
