Variant aspects in an extended region of oral traditions were examined, lyrics, tunes, and functions.
First, lyrics variation has undergone some major changes in the conventional area of oral tradition according to a singer’s own personality. Some positive folk singers were able to create many new styles in the basis of an oral tradition and sing them, and there were many lyrics with the similar subject. But, according to extended spots of oral tradition, Arari education through educational organizations has been routinely carried out. Because some lyrics were published in textbooks and used, any new styles have been not created in recent years. However, some lyrics in the Jeongseon-Arari Chang-geuk(a folk opera) have been performed by creating or modified according to the contents of it.
Second, a tune variation has a variety of types because an individuals in the conventional areas of oral tradition sang to himself and the sound was created, while some of tunes in the extended spots of oral tradition could have been initiated by being officially transmitted through educational organizations. Moreover, in view of the results so far achieved by examining musical notes of Jeongseon-Arari of which antecedents made a collection, there was different melodies from an informer’s melodies according to a musical note collector. And, it was shown that Jeongseon Arirang’s original tunes of Gyonggi-Do type established by folk singers in the area of Gyeonggi-Do was begun through mixed Arari, but through specialist folk singers, many parts of it were arranged and newly created to be a variety of variations styles.
Third, functional variations were in charge of presenting its feelings by Jeongseon-Arari accepting both functional and non-functional characters in the conventional spots of oral tradition, but extended spots of oral tradition has lost their function of work song, and have been transmitted as a non-functional song for fun. Through these changes, lyrics as a work song arranged and created by taking a hint from a variety of working places has been changed to lyrics of the contents for entertainment and fun.
In short, while Jeongseon-Arari’s conventional spot of oral tradition is losing its functions according to the changes of working conditions, screams of consciousness, playing methods, and living conditions, popularization of oral traditions in the educational field have become active. Modem Acceptability by performance and record has been constantly achieved through various efforts and support on the county level for activating colorful festivals, extended size of the singing contest, debut of newly supporting groups, and Chang-geuk performances going with the times. Because of growing letters and visual records, materials activized about Jeongseon-Arari, it also plays an important role in finding a larger market abroad.
The thesis has the objective of serving as a stepping stone in studying Jeongseon-Arari from a historical, social, and cultural view in understanding Jeongseon-Arari from studying the people’s feelings, cultures, and customs in Jeongseon.
