Since the introduction of the local self-government, there has been the increase in the number of cities that have selected the 8 great views to let their unique local characteristics be known all over the country. This study was conducted to analyse these characteristics of the 8 great views which were selected by the local government authorities. The result of this study is summarized as follows. In order for the currently selected 8 great views to show their unique characteristics. First of all, it is required to select them either in close cooperation with the local governments or on their own initiative. Second, the background element of their selection included "Image improvement & Vision suggestion" and "Utilization" of local great views as resources, and its purpose was to enhance "Local attractions" and "Tourism." It seems, therefore, that their selection of the 8 great views was intended to use their unique local resources for tourism and improve their local attraction. Third, the use of the selected 8 great views showed that their used frequency was high when selected by the local governments, and the highest frequency included the web site and guidebook. Other information brochures were mostly temporary, with the contents being unsuitable for the goal of their selection.
