The purpose of this study is to analyze the pattern of locational change about the geographical concentration or dispersion of manufacturing in Korea since 1980. And examined the factors that manufacturing dispersed to the peripheral region through the cases of Honam Region.
The greater region of Seoul have 55% over of national manufacturing firms in 1996. Such a concentration of manufacturing firms to the greater region of Seoul is continuing since 1980. But the number of manufacturing employment largely decreased in the seoul greater city. Because It is that small firms remained in seoul, on the other hand the larger size manufacturing firms dispersed to the suburbs of Seoul. Accordingly many manufacturing firms agglomerated in Kyonggi region. Particularly the large manufacturing firms dispersed to the peripheral region like Honam region.
The major factor of locational change is the nonprofit of agglomeration by an overcrowding in the great city. Therefore the large manufacturing firms disperse to the peripheral region that the land prise is low and the infrastructure is constructing. For that reason, the industrial space is making in the peripheral region.
