The index of mixed land use seems more pertinent to describe and analyze the different degrees of various urban activities than any other descriptive constitutions of urban spatial structure.
In this way, we analyzed the spatial structure of Seoul on the basis of the land use survey of Seoul in 1980. Then, after classfying the spatial organization in terms of the types and degrees of different land use, we have distinguished the distribution of various urban activities and their spatial inter-relationship.
In the way, we do hope that this study can provide a useful reference to point for the continuous studies on urban spatial structure and mixed land use.
As a result of this study we can find following points ;
First, among 401 dongs there are 160 dongs of residential type of land use, 153 dongs of commercial type use, 62 dongs of industrial type use and 26 dongs of mixed land use.
Second, there are 94 dongs which were specialized into a single type of land use and 307 dongs showed mixed land use.
Third, residential type of land use is distributed over the whole urban areas except CBD and SEMI-INDUSTRIAL ZONE. As for the commercial type of land use, it shows more high degree of mixedness with the commercially specialized use tends to be more concentrated in CBD.
On the other hand, as the industrial use tends to be decreased by the distance from SEMI-INDUSTRIAL ZONE, it shows locationally centripetal tendency of the SEMI-INDUSTRIAL ZONE.
Fourth, except for the SEMI-INDUSTRIAL ZONE which is mainly constituted of industrial use, the specialized types are distributed in little-related zoning regulation by designated.
