Subway is a representative public transportation method in major large cities contributing to easing chronic traffic congestion due to its punctuality, safety, environmentally friendliness etc.
However, enormous maintenance cost is required in operating subway as well as vast amount of money at the construction stage. Also passenger needs for more convenient facilities are expected to increase because of better income and improvement of consciousness level.
On the contrary to enormous operating expenses, fare that is occupying most of operating income doesn't come up to its prime cost causing chronic operating deficit.
Therefore, the current study analyzed the present problems of subway fate system such as fare level under operating cost, decrease of operating condition of Seoul subway to resolve financial difficulty of a subway operating organization, On the basis of these problems, the study can be used as a basic study improving problems about the whole subway fare system and suggesting improvement measures to apply them to actual operation in the future.
