The subway line 1 in Seoul was first opened in 1974. Since its opening, the impact of the subway as a public transit facillity has been substancial.
This study attempts to evaluate the impact of the subway system on land price. For the study, the area served by subway and that not served by subway, labeled Subway area and Non-subway area respectively, are identified. The land price in 1979 in these areas are compared.
The result shows that the impact of thesubway is not fully realized although very visible. The land price has increased more in the CBD area than in the area distant from the CBD. Within the study area, the price increase attributable to the subway is 7,092,830 won, which is 1.5 times more than the Non-subway area.
