The purpose of this paper is to explain the movement pattern and behavior of corporate headquarters located in the capital region of Korea.
A specially designed data file on 3,000 major corporations of this country was prepared to perform the origin - destination analysis of the corporate headquarter movements in the capital region for the past 10 year between 1985 and 1995.
Major findings from the analysis are summarized as follows;
(l) As the stage of information -oriented society matures, the distance between a corporate headquarter and its factories is gradually increasing.
(2) Corporate headquarters located in Seoul had shown a tendency of dispersion to Inchon and Kyonggi region during the period of 1985-1990, but after that they tend to reconcentrate to Seoul to fully utilize the growing information and producer services available in the primate city.
(3) The characteristics of a corporate headquarter such as the corporate size, the category of business. and the form of corporate structure influences the pattern and direction of its locational movement within the capital region.
