A model which can explain interactions between transportation system and activity system was developed in this paper. The model was called as LUTEM (Land-Use and Transportation Equilibrium Model). It is very importatnt to understand how the two systems-transportation and activity systems-affect each other in long-term and large scale transportation planning, because large -scale changes in thransportation systems will be followed by activity system shift in long term periods and vice versa.
This LUTEM consisted in four sub models residential location choice model, industrial location choice model, activity equilbrium model and transportation equilibrium model. Some particular variables in a sub model are also used in other sub models so that interaction between sub models are considered in this LUTEM model. This interaction between sub models can make possible to explain interactions between transportation and activity system and to find out an equilibrium condition.
The author tried to develop a practical model which relaxes some restricted assumptions through empirical behavioral approach, and at the same time, to develop a theoretically sound model which can explain cause and effect between key factors in trevel and location choice behaviors. To explain residential location choice behavior, nested logit model was used and multinomial logit model was used to explain industrial location choice behavior and transportation modal choice behavior. As a transportation equilibrium model, the Wordrop’s first princple-user equilibrium assignment-was adopted.
