This paper presents the theoretical method for evaluating the flexural behavior of RC(reinforced concrete) beams strengthened with hi-strength bars. The experimental phase of the investigation is described in an earlier paper, which also outlines the advantage of the external unbonded strengthening. For evaluating the flexural behavior this paper proposes a method of simple summating estimation. This method basically assumes that the total strength of RC beams strengthened with hi-strength bars is equal to summation of the strength of RC beams without hi-strength bars and the strength of hi-strength bars. That is similar to using the principal of superposition. But this method doesn`t includes the effect of axial force due to the tension of hi-strength bars and pre-stress in external bars. The flexural behavior of RC beams is represented through the load versus deflection curve.
Even though the results in theoretical method have some degree of difference with the value of experimental results, the theoretical results show that the stiffness before global yield point is nearly similar to the experimental data. Comparison between theoretical and experimental results allows to conclude that the simple summating estimation method is able to simulate, with a good level of accuracy for evaluating the flexural behavior of RC beams strengthened with hi-strength bars.
