This study proposes a newly defined urban and architectural direction of contemporary church in Korea, which has followed the rapid social and economical changes since 1990's. Based on the analysis of community role of the church, the new church type has been defined as 'the community church model' that can be linked to 'Diaspora' model in comparison to the traditional 'ecclesia' type church. In addition, 'Relationship- process' methodology is introduced as architectural strategy to imply diaspora church. Diaspora church is a getting scattered model that has possibility the emerging local community identity with positive influence in local area. In the city, the buildings change organically and make 'the process' of the construction. From the process, 'the relationship' among different buildings is formed and also makes another 'process'. The research on 'the process of construction' had already preceded 'pattern language' and 'A new theory of urban design' by C.Alexander, N.J,Harbraken describes 'the relationship' with physical, territorial and cultural orders from 'The structure of ordinary'. Bases on Alexander and Harbraken's research, the community church in Hyehwadong, Seoul applied 'relationship- process' methodology which grows spontaneously by the relationship of building-building(physical), building-path(territorial) and building-agents(cultural).
