It is very important to estimate the environment of the dwelling space in which people are living. But the indoor environmental control ability of the house made of the soil were not so much studied, so the study on the indoor environmental characteristics on the earthen house are necessary. The characteristics of the thermal environment by the surface temperature of the 8 rooms in the 5 houses(Called M earthen house) located in Hwasun were tested and analysed. The results can be summarized as follows ;
The differences of the temperature of the door frame, window frame and the door paper were shown least among the all components of the rooms. In the 2-story building, the temperatures of the 1st story ceiling was 5℃ lower than the 2nd story ceiling. Usually the temperature of the floor was shown proportional to the ceiling temperature, it is thought that the radial heat from the ceiling was the most affective on the room temperature. Almost all surface temperatures of the inside of the earthen house were seemed similar.
This study was focused only on the surface temperature of the earthen house, so the further study with the other indoor and outdoor climatic elements should be necessary.
