This paper tries to analyze Yoon, Dong-ju's 〈Hospital〉, which was written when he was in the third years of Yonhee College, in connection with his Flowers Blossom in the Garden, which was written in the same year. The writing of Flowers was motivated by the conflict between professors and students raised at the moment of force disintegration of the Yonhee humanities student body Moonoohoe. In this work Yoon severely put criticism on the old generation who were absorbed in self-abnegation and despair in the historical environment of the age of Japanese seizure.
The main idea represented in the Flowers is to be found in 〈Hospital〉. Here, the patients are no others than the old physicians themselves, who do not know what ails the young people; the hospital is no other place than the society itself, which is filled with the old generation like old physicians. This realization of the poet's hints at the fact that the poem resulted from the process of turning inward the contemporary harsh reality. Confronted with this reality, 'I' is undergoing 'severe hardship.'
However, the poem 〈Hospital〉 gives some light on the possibility of curing 'I' who is suffering from a historical illness. The 'young' woman, who can be referred to as double inwardness of 'I,' is depicted here as receiving sunlight all day long, lying in the backyard of the hospital, and as culling a flower from the garden and putting it on her chest. As a feeble gesture for the possibility of vertical communication in the closed space where horizontal communication with outside is totally blocked, this means wishful yearning for the cure of the historical illness.
