The aim of this treatise is that diagnoses teaching/ learning circumstances of Chinese language class (in liberal arts courses) in Korean universities, tries to find a solution to a problem, indicates the remedy to revitalize Chinese education in liberal arts courses.
In this writing, the way of revitalizing Chinese education was proposed from three aspects.
First, system aspects.
- The conversion form liberal arts courses into required courses and the actual expansion in lecture(above 5 hours a week).
- Grouping (Beginner, intermediate, advanced) by the level according to a placement test after registering for courses. It is because that the most serious problem a lecturer faces in fields is the level gaps among learners.
- The lecture infrastructure building for listening /speaking-centered education in Chinese language, revitalizing Co - teaching between native speakers and national lecturers and the wide usage of teaching assistant(TA) method of chinese students studying in korea.
The repeal of an widely spreaded relative evaluation system in liberal arts courses (especially in foreign language courses).
Second, curriculum aspect.
- The closely connected courses in levels (Beginners class- intermediate - even advanced) according to organizing curriculum, developing textbooks and appropriate lecture contents and using a variety of teaching methods.
- The contents development for not only language ability but cultural literary attainments.
- Revitalizing Chinese classes in liberal arts courses as instrument subject linked with other departments, for instance. international trade.
Chinese, IT Chinese(internet Chinese), science Chinese, law term Chinese, arts Chinese, travel Chinese, medical Chinese, athletic Chinese, game Chinese.
Third, Social aspects.
- The publicity in understanding that China can be an alternative role to American-exclusively-centered world and Chinese also will be essential or even vital in living according to the dramatically increased trades and exchange between China and Korea.
- Endeavors for expanding opportunity to learn and teach Chinese at middle and high school, that is relatively lagged behind Japanese has a majority in a second foreign language.
