Tang Xian Zu was a drama writer who had significant impacts on the history of Chinese dramatic culture. He read a lot, worked hard on writing and left enormous valuable cultural wealth. In modern dramatic community of China, the dramatic works of Tang Xian Zu show lasting vigour, on the other hand there are a great number of scholars who study Tang Xian Zu and have contributed many works. Far the study of Tang Xian Zu's drama, this paper focuses on the outcomes of "Lin Chun Four Dreams".
I have to say: so called “outcome” is not end instead of the process of evolvement of dramatic contradiction, which has 3 5 plots. During the process, we can see common characteristics of the outcomes of "Lin Chun four Dreams".
First, showing that Tang Xian Zu felt helpless in real world, which could be seen through the four works. Prior to the end, the master in the drama got in dilemma. It reflected social reality. The end of four works was as if it had been a suffix. that added to real world.
Second, the master had no way to find the destination of his life voyage. Finally, he depended on external force to achieve an ideal outcome. This external force featured absolute worship of emperor's authority in first two dreams and emperors controlled figurer's life. In last two dreams, the plays especially stressed the master's introspection, "wake up" and "seeking wakeup". There was no single word of emperor' authority instead of Buddhism and religious power. The impetus of the outcome changed from monarchical power to religious power, which displayed the suspicion of monarchical power. It was a big breakthrough and leap of Tang Xian Zu's writing. It is of obvious thinking value.
Third, the outcomes of four works displayed characteristics of getting folk custom. the plays used lively mystery tales, folk custom, the stories of the court and the commonalty, applied all kinds of art elements, and balanced various to finish total structure of the drama. All living creatures in the heaven and in the world were gathering on the stage while the drama approached to the end, which displayed lively picture full with folk customs.
In a word, the writer of this paper thinks that the careful observation of the drama by its outcomes of four plays is a new watch point, and hopefully it will result in a valuable research field.
