The objective of this study is to grasp the factors that the solar radiation-heat to be flowed into the indoor through the roof affects the indoor thermal environment at top floor in summer. Based on the mock-up test to measure the passive cooling effects in installing the shade on the roof as a method to reduce the flow of solar radiation heat, this study investigates the effectiveness and validity of the control method of solar radiation depending on the installation of shade. The passive cooling effects at the top floor according to the control of solar radiation were measured on-time on the site. This study provides the fundamental data for passive cooling design and the reasonable specifications of roof insulation by quantitatively investigating the control of solar radiation for restraining the rising of indoor temperature.
The results of this study were summarized as follows; 1) As the results of the test, the remarkable difference in air temperature between the top and mid floor was observed. Based on the experiment to be executed under the closed openings, the temperature of the top floor was 1.5∼2.2 ℃ higher than the mid floor. 2) The shade to be installed on the roof was effective in restraining the rising of indoor temperature at the top floor. At the experiment of the closed openings, the drop in indoor temperature due to the installation of shade exhibited 0.3~0.7℃ lower than the indoor temperature-drop without the shade. 3) Based on the analysis on the comfort indoor thermal environment index, it was observed that the indoor thermal environment at the top and mid floor with and without the shade is similar tendency with air temperature.
