An experimental study has been performed to identify the evaporation characteristics of HCFC-22 for vehicle refrigeration system. Heat transfer coefficients have been measured in a horizontal. smooth evaporating tube with an inner diameter 10.7 ㎜ and a length of 2.8 m. The refrigerant was heated electrically by surface-wrapped heaters and uniform power is applied along the tube. The entire tube was divided into 7 sections. A single tube evaporation test was conducted for different ranges of mass flux of refrigerant, condensing temperature and heat flux of evaporator. The objectives of this research was to determine the evaporation heat transfer coefficients of HCFC-22 and to compare these data with predictions from the known correlations. These data will be applied to modify the design of the evaporator fur truck refrigeration system currently using R-502 in Korea.
