This article aims to reflect western ontology in Kim Su-young’s poems and its developing aspect. He was very interested in Heidegger’s ontology and shaped out his literary world on the basis of it. But he began to change his literary trend since the success of April 19 Revolution and its frustration.
Heidegger’s ontology started from the critical recognition of the contemporary reality. The reality at that time was the one reflected in the western world and thus it was not very well compatible with our own situation. He realized that it was not quite fit to our condition where we experienced the success and failure of April 19 Revolution although Heidegger’s ontology was appropriate by itself. From that realistic perspective he began to feel that we needed our own ontological framework.
This reflective recognition made Kim pay attention to the surroundings which had not been sufficiently attended and realize the existence of explosive power behind them. Kim thought that it would be possible to accomplish the ontological self-establishment and the creation of the new world only when the intellectual were positively ready to accept it. One further significant step was that Kim attempted to organize a new world order which brought up the positive and active exchange and communication between the old and new, the orient and west, the tradition and renovation. Such attempt had never been attempted before at that time and it gives valuable insight to us who are facing similar situation today.
