This paper is to review the general picture of North Korea in terms of agriculture and poultry sector so as to predict the relations between the South and North through agricultural cooperation. North Korea, politically socialistic, centrally controlled and closed to the outside world as well as economically difficult in supply of food, energy, and foreign currency, has been suffered by low agricultural productivity due mainly to collective farming system under the communistic structure. No reliable information on the current situation of agricultural technology and production is available, though, it is estimated that some 2 million tons of grains are short each year to meet the demand, which chiefly derived from the inefficient production system and consecutive crop damages up till this year, inviting international organizations such as WFP and non governmental organizations including the Red Cross began providing food aids to North Korea since 1995. North Korean agriculture is unlikely to be reformed the structure to increase the production under the brinkmanship policy of maintaining the long lasting Kim's regime. Although there are sizable model/demonstration farms directly under the state control, the majority of farms are under cooperative system peculiarized with small in per man size, primitive infrastructure and low productivity at the end. North Korea must be looking for every source of increased supply in agricultural products through either local or outside products, which will be eventually headed to the South for cooperation in due course. It is necessary for the South, therefore, to be patient and ready for two party relations in complementary cooperation.
