The typological approach in architecture is a way for the expert and non-expert(e.g., client/user or student) to understand both the starting point and goal of a project. The typological approach helps in designing for understandability in built environments. It stems from two notions: (1) the human's cognitive capacity enhanced by economy and accuracy of recognition; and (2) the need for an instrumental tool and communitive device between the expert and non-expert. The architectural typology has become not only a means for classifying buildings in order to create architectural inventions, but also permits the introduction of 'memory' into the explications, concepts, and production of buildings. A 'typology of forms' in architecture is a vivid and concrete technique for sharing knowledge. In this study, the typological approach is dealt with from two perspectives: educational and practical perspectives. Through the analysis of the questionnaire survey, this study confirms the effectiveness of typological approach as a practical and educational tool.
