Hombikat UV 100 has been used as a photocatalyst for detoxifying contaminated water with toxic organics. In this experiment 1mM DCA solution has been employed as a target compound to investigate the quantum yield with autotitration technique. Effect of heat treatment temperature of Hombikat UV100 on the quantum yield has been studied. In older to improve photocatalytic activity platinization of Hombikat was concluded. Effect of platinum concentration and heat treatment temperature on the quantum yields of Pt-doped Hombikat have been investigated with DCA. The highest quantum yield of 43.4 % has been achieved with 1 wt % Pt-doped Hombikat after calcinating at 300 ℃ for 1 hr among other catalysts under the same experimental condition. Platinized Hombikat thin film also has been coated on the inner wall of tubular photoreactor to eliminate the difficulty to separate TiO₂ catalyst particles from the treated effluent after photocatalytic bleaching of methyl orange. Results of this work showed the possibility for replacing slurry type solar reactor with the thin film photoreactor with reasonable photocatalytic efficiency.
