This paper presents an optimal design method for fuzzy logic controller using Genetic Algorithm in HVDC system. Fuzzy logic controllers are applied to damp the dynamic disturbances such as sudden changes of AC system loads. The dynamic performances of fuzzy logic controllers are compared with those of PI controllers. In both controllers, Genetic Algorithm(GA) is used for tuning membership functions and PI gains. The simulation results show that the dynamic performances of fuzzy controllers have better responses than those of PI controllers when AC system load changes.
