Non-heat treated cold forging steels have been developed to save energy consumption by ruling out heat treatment processes before and after forging process, which are spherodizing and quenching/tempering(Q/T). Non heat-treated cold forging steels utilize the work hardening to ensure the mechanical properties since Q/T treatment was eliminated as hardening mechanism. In other words, the required strength of forged part is achieved by work hardening with the accumulation of plastic strain during the cold working. On the other hands, severe load is applied on the die system for the non-heat treated steel forging in comparison with the conventional mild steels, which leads to the premature fracture of die system. Therefore, it is necessary to lower the flow stress of steels as much as possible during forging steps while the final product has to get a permissible strength level as a reliable forging part. In the present study, Bauschinger effect of non heat-treated steels was deliberately investigated to find out in the respect of lowering the flow stress during forging steps as well as to ensure the final product quality issues.
