The imagination of confinement and escape in Yi-sang's Nal-gae is expressed with the image of Fish Bowl which is common to urban poets of the 1930s. But Yi-sang shows a unique spatial image by making it double. In his Nal-gae, the wife's room/wife that controls and manipulates' me-in the narrative', the main character's thoughts and actions with money and clock-time has an image of a Fish Bowl. Because 'I-in the narrative' am fascinated with the 'wife's room/wife-fish bowl', 'I-in the narrative' pretend ignorance of its negativities and willingly want to be a happy goldfish in it. But facing her/its' negativities, 'I-in the narrative' run away from her/it desperately. In the end, what 'I-in the narrative' find out is that the outer world is only an another bigger fish bowl which works on money and siren of the noon(which is more powerful and threatening image of a clock) as well.
In hopeless situation of being imprisoned in the double fish bowls from where someone never can escape, '1' slip out of 'me-in the narrative' and disclose the voice of 'me-in the prologue'. Because as the only possible pair to the 'Paik-ji(a blank/white paper)' in the prologue, the 'ink' which suddenly mentioned at th; end of the story is the sign that'!, am talking as a writer. According to the prologue, Yi-sang, the writer takes the 'Paik-ji(a blank/white paper)' as a space of creative writing-play, and takes his writing as a game playing with the readers. So the 'ink' and 'page{from 'removed page of hope and ambition')' that is the same thing as the Paik-ji means 'writing' to 'me-as the writer'. Considering that 'Suddenly itching armpits' are the part he uses when he hold a book, a wing he yearns to recover means his power to write. The will to fly at the last scene means Yi-sang's will to refuse the goldfish-like life in the reality of inescapable fish bowl and his will to break through it by writing-play.
