The current view is that the King Muryeong(武寧王) was the son of the King Kaero (蓋鹵王) or the son of Konji(昆支). This study attempted to examine the material related to the pedigree of King Muryeong and interpret the tale of his birth on this basis. As a result, it is found that there is a great possibility that King Muryeong might be the son of Konji. That is, this study argues that King Muryeong was the son of Konji and from his childhood was reared at home away from the parents who stayed in Japan for the political reason.
The King Muryeong brought back to Baekjae(百濟) came to live with a focus on learning and religion far away limn politics. He ended his role as a hostage because the King Kaero was a loser and died after the collapse of the Hanseong(漢城), and then came to be engrossed in a deep Buddhist life while taking a look at a turbulent political situation after his experience of the death of his father Konji. Such a predisposition was reinforced by the enthronement of the King Dongseong(東城王), the King younger brother. However, with the assassination of the King Dongseong, the King Muryeong came to succeed to the throne at his age of 40. This process of peculiar growth of the King Muryeong and his succession to the throne began to be widely rumored and came to remain in the form of the tale of Seodong(書童說話). It is regarded that such growth process of the King Muryeong made the establishment of the Mireuksa(彌勒寺) possible.
