Korean traditional mourning costume contains the beautiful spirit of worshipping ancestors and the extreme mind of being dutiful to one's parents. Mourning costume is divided into five grades according to dressers' intimate, far and near relations to mourners and their social statuses. And these grades put a difference to the quality of hemp cloth and sewing methods and got also mourning periods to be differntly decided
In particular, Ch'oieui and Ch'oisang among mourning costume, as the bases of mourning costume, have the structural characteristic of being most expressive and particularity also in the manufacturing method due to their peculiar forms
As an upper garment of mourning costume, Ch'oieui is the apparel having the most expressivity among mourning costume And several pieces of cloth symbolizing filial piety are attached to it Besides, ch'olsang, as a lower garment of mourning costume, has total seven pieces with three pieces ahead and four pieces behind and its front and back are not connected each other.
