This study was designed to comprehend about the funeral ceremony of Chosun dynasty and the dress of a dead body prepared for burial; a shroud. Rrst of all, study the funeral ceremony procedure and shroud in dressing the deceased for burial procedure both general and national mourning.
The results of this study are summarized as follows.
Rrst, the procedure of the funeral ceremony is dassificated 'before the whole period of mourning', 'the whole period of mourning', 'washing and clothing the dead', 'the departure of a funeral from home for the burial', and 'expiration of the period of mourning'. It is almost identical general and national except the first procedure of national mourning in Chosun dynasty is obedience the king's last will. Courtesy formalities of national mourning consider relationship to lord and vassal, other countries and nation's prestige so, it indudes more formal procedure in that ceremony.
Second, the shroud of both general and national mourning is different from the number and color of fabric according to one's social status. National mourning ceremony appending symbolic material for representation of the authority of national mourning.
