Why individuals freely subordinate themselves to society which constrains and suppresses their ways of life? This is the main concern of the study, and this study attempts to find the answer from the relationship between their early stage of childhood and adulthood. Due to the desire for care, security and protection, an infant seeks a sense of "being at-oneness" with its mother, that is, its first object, and gets an experiences of stable existence. As the infant grows up, the first object is gradually replaced by something around the infant, for instance, toys, dolls, or a corner of a blanket, which is the second object, in other words, "the transitional object." The new object is symbolic of the first object, standing for the first one. When the infant becomes a grown-up, he or she meets the third object, which is society: society as an object in Emile Durkheim's sense and society as the sum of interaction between individuals in Max Weber's sense. The same kind of relationship and process takes place between the person and the third object: as an infant did between an infant and its first and second object, the individual seeks to have the "at-oneness" relationslup with the object and secure the existential stability. In so doing, the individual exchanges a portion of his/her freedom and happiness for a portion of security and stability. The person fulfills the rule and expectation of the society, which constrains, restricts and suppresses the ways of thinking and acting of the person.
