M I started my scholarship with the study of philosophy, I came to be aware ofthe different characteristics between Western and Eastern philosophy, and I realized that at the foundations of Eastern philosophy exists self-cultivation. And in order to study this issue from a contemporary standpoint, I thought it necessary to pursue it through the assistance of psychology and medicine. Research in ki-energy has been inaugurated with this interest in mind. For a study of this nature, it is necessary to secure a corporation of researchers working in other disciplines. The role I have played has been just a mediator among the researchers, but philosophical knowledge, it would seem, is originally to meditate and gather together the various fields of scholarship, wherein lie the problems of a reflective investigation concerning human
nature, methodology in scholarship, and the view of nature. At present, among the philosophers who have interest in mind-body science there are comparatively many who study Chinese philosophy.
