This research aims to study the distribution of port settlements found by Japanese immigrants as fishing villages in modem period of Korea. By analysis of form and typology of them, the purpose of the research is to clarify the dwelling's spatial structure of these port settlements.
The research discovered that most of Japanese fishing villages intensely are distributed around the southern coast of Korea Peninsular due to the favorable conditions as ports. According to the consideration of functional qualities, these ports acquire the beneficial factors for production, distribution, commerce and shelter, encouraging them to be the well-known ports of Korea in the present day. Additionally, focusing analysis on the coastal lines and village forms, these port settlements can be separated into paralleling, vertical and blending types. Interestingly, in the islands, blending type of village forms is not found while in the coastal area of mainland, vertical type of village forms is not found.
