The strategy of vehicle vibration is quite different between a convertible and a sedan in the view of vehicle structure due to the limitations in design concept. An investigation has been carried out to solve the problem of design concepts of a convertible using FEM. The design concept of a convertible is applied to normal mode analysis and forced response analysis compared with a sedan. The static and dynamic stiffness of a convertible vehicle is much lower than those of a sedan. It is found that vibration levels in steering wheel and seat track are very high based on the forced response analysis. These vibration levels are caused by the first vibration mode of body that is very important to get NVH target. Finally the dynamic absorber is applied to reduce the vibration levels and to enhance the dynamic stiffness.
