In this paper, the best way to go through a comer is analyzed mathematically. 'Best' means in the least time, at the greatest average speed. The shape of the driving line (racing line) through the corner that gives the best time is determined and the times required to go through the corner for some other lines are calculated and compared.
It is shown that both inside and outside driving lines never beat classical racing line even though that as the radius increases the margin of loss decreases. The wider the course, the greater the margin of loss. It is also found that outside driving line becomes better than inside driving line for wide courses.
