In this thesis, a new concatenative speech synthesis method is developed to reduce the distortion due to mismatch of phonemes at the concatenation points. Although the most widely used method, TD-PSOLA, requires a small number of computations, it shows some noticeable distortion at the concatenation points mainly because of the amplitude and phase mismatch resulting f개m the time-domain concatenation. I tried the concatenation based on two different models, one for voiced and the other for unvoiced sounds. Since it is more critical to reduce the mismatch at the voiced sound, the harmonic modeling which analyzed the harmonic amplitude, phase, and pitch is employed for the voiced phonemes. The phase is modified at the analysis stage using the center of gravity algorithm, and the pitch and amplitude are modified at the synthesis stage using linear interpolation. For the unvoiced sound, the linear predictive analysis method is used because there is no need of modifying the parameters. The synthesized speech using the proposed method shows better naturalness at the concatenation points than the TD-PSOLA.
