Jaha Shinwi(紫霞 申緯, 1769~1845) was an artist with a great reputation of Samjeo(三絶) as a literary man who was good at writing a poem, calligraphy and drawing a picture. He was one of them that had reached a stage of perfection as a literary man in the East, specially showing his wonderful talent for writing a poem, drawing a picture, and attaining the stage of calligraphy. Shinwi made an efforts to achieve his own world of poetry, never turning his face away from the problem of reality. His world of poetry was not limited a matter to genre of literature and constructed more deepened province through Zen as well as drawing a picture and calligraphy.
Shinwi who could extend his world of poetry thanks to individuality wanted to describe the fact in his poetry and the phases of the age. His poetry promoted to higher level through pursuing the mind at the same time making much of fact. In this way, Dasan(茶山) Jeongyakyoung(丁若鏞)'s poetry was different from Shinwi's. Dasan Jeongyakyoung intended to change the society through his poetry, on the contrary, Shinwi intended to described the world of mind, focusing in the fact. This endeavor was expressed in the union of poetry, calligraphy, picture, and Zen. But poetry's goal was the rhythmical language, calligraphy's goal was harmonized letter, and the picture's goal was visual picture.
