Byeongcheol who is from Youngyang-Gun, Kyeongsangbuk-Do worked for the glass factory in Manju. After returning home in 1940, he attended Hyehwa vocational college, and then, he worked as a teacher in Andong agricultural high school and lhwa women's high school. After the 1945 liberation of Korea, he went to North Korea. After going to North Korea, I Byeongcheol' progressive idea of literature fell into the means of defence of the North Korean system At that time, his work was filled with the admiration of Kim llseong and his son. An then, he died in 19:6 and his posthumous collected poems, One life if my life was published. The works of these collected poems seemed to be works written in Joseon literature.
The American military government is consistent with the period when the partition of Korea, or so the national contradiction begins in Korea's modem history. He hoped that Koreans would restore the subjectivity of nation instead of submitting to this contradiction. The opposing aspects of Left-right ideology clearly appears in his literary activity and this shows us his literary conflicts. Koreans Living in the period thought of literature as the instruments or means of the struggle and his literature also had the meaning of the arms for national liberation. Therefore, the poetic self who directly defies and struggles against the reality of Joseon peninsula was in his works. The background on which he could develop the progressive literary activity stemmed from the fact that he was free from the history of the past, or so the rule of Japanese imperialism The poets who were free from the past appeared as the avant-garde poets, who were treated as new faces in the association of Joseon literary men.
The actual partition was connected with the partition of literary history and thus, the accession to the writers who went to North Korea was very difficult. Though the ban against them was removed and the reflection of the writers who went to North Korea was done very briskly, actual difficulties didn't disappear wholly. In the case of the poet, I Byeongcheol, it appears as the following: We find that instrumentalism of literature for the support of North Korea system destroys literary personalities of very excellent writers. Therefore, we regret our reality in which his outstanding literary personalities were taken advantage of as the admiration of North Korea system.
