Park. Jin-Tae. 2003. The Production and Transfiguration of Lee-cholgoi's Mask. URlMALGEUL : The Korean Lan8/lage and Literature 29. 269-301. The sandaenori recorded in Gangichon (姜彛天)' s poem at the eighteenth century is the prototype of the existing sandaenori. Lee-cholgoi(李鐵拐)'s name changed into Yonnip and Nunkkumjogi. But the formative features maintained. Lee-cholgoi was one of the eight immortals of Taoism and symbolizes the poverty. Therefore he was a beggar and a cripple. When his spirit got into some beggar's body, he became an immortal by Lao-tzu(老子), Therefore his face was black, and his unkempt hair was tied by a golden bamboo ring, and his beard was curled, and his two eyes were largely round. Before Lee-cholgoi was enlightened by Lao-tzu, he made a surprising and angry expression. but after Lee-tzu enlightened him, he wore a smile. The mask of angry Lee-cholgoi is Nunkkumiogj and the mask of laughing Lee-cholgoi is Yonnip. The repertory of the sandaenori of the eighteenth century are the play of Sangjwa, the play of throwing and catching ball. the play of an old monk, Chebal, a confucian and a knight, the playa Zen priest. the play of an old woman and the play of Lee-cholgoi's dance. At the after-ages these acts differentiated and many new acts had been made. (Daegu University)
