The patients in this case report complained that they had felt a pain in masseteric area(cheek) during ingestion of sour food or mastication. After routine clinical and radiographic examination, tentative diagnosis were sialolithiasis on parotid gland, constriction or dilaceration of Stensen's duct, but there was no evidence of abnormality in the sialography. And, the patients gained a gradational recovery under the treatment of myofascial pain on chief complaint site.
Therefore, it is suggested that the symptoms in these cases may be associated with muscle disorders and they may be explained by anatomical variation of Stensen's duct, alteration of connective tissue(fascia, endomysium, epimysium, perimysium etc.) and neuroplasteic change associated with myofascial pain.
But. further studies and additional data collection will be necessary for confirmation of these suggestive mechanisms.
