The study presented here deals with the effect of possible
posiontion of opening on the lateral stiffness of infilled
frames. A more precise behaviour of infilled panel with opening
can be obtained by considering its interaction with the steel
frame, the effect of connection between panel and frame, and
taking into account other important details. The experimental
results of the lateral sfiffness have been compared with the
theoretical predictions obtained by using a finite element
approach. It is obserued that the composite action between the
frame and infill is adversely affected as the opening position
is moved towards the compression diagonal. It recommended that
the door openings can best be located in the center of the
lower half of panel and window opening in the mid-height region
of the left or right of the panel as near to the vertical edge
of the panel as possible.
