The Soft-Deformable-Story-Structure system has been gradually attracting the attention of structural designers since M.Findel, et al. proposed it in 1969. The basic concept used in the system is insulating the upper stories from high intensity ground motions by introducing a soft deformable story in the lower part of the building. The authors have made a series of study on the characteristics of this structure system for applying it to the concrete structures for many years, which covers the material property of the confined concrete, the modeling of hysteresis loop of the confined concrete column members and the earthquake resistant behavior of this structural system. And then through a series of study made about the natural period of concrete buildings with Soft-Deformable-First-Story, authors found the capability of Soft-Story-Structure to control the natural period of the building and that the preproposed estimating equations were unsuitable to be applied to presume the natural period of this building with Soft-Deformable-First-Story. Thus, the purpose of this study is to prove the possibility of controlling the natural period by the usage of Soft-Deformable-First-Story Structure, and to propose the estimating equations of the natural period that relate with the governing factors. Based on the study presented herein, the following conclusions can be described. (1)Changing in the stiffness distribution of upper stories and the weight distribution of the entire building doesn't have influence on the natural periods in the case of the building with Soft-Deformable-First-Story. (2)Though yield base shear force coefficient has influence on the natural periods, the increase ratio of the natural period caused by the variation of this factor is uniform. (3)The diameter reduction ratio of the column and the height increase ratio of Soft-Deformable-First-Story have a lot of influence on the natural periods, especially the latter factor has larger influence on the natural periods. (4)The proposed equations are available to estimate the natural periods of concrete buildings with Soft-Deformable-First-Story. The equations by the simple regression method are simple and have pratical applicability, and the equation induced from the theoretical study is accurate.
