After the epochal turning point of the public transportation system by the launching of the first subway line in 1974, now the positive solutions of transport problems through the multi-functional uses of the urban spaces are required. And the improvement of subway system has to be realized comprehensively in the various fields such as urban planning aspects, constructional methods, structural designing, vehicles, architectural environment, etc. Therefore, in this study, especially for the consideration of space planning and design improvement of subway stations, the investigation of the present status of that in Seoul and analysis of the problems were examined. By inspecting and synthesizing concepts for planning in case of foreign countries, the standards and the direction in planning according to the characteristic and components of a subway station could be suggested. But the standards and solutions presented here are not inflexible rules!
