This study aimed to investigate the influence of fathers’ play participation attitude and work-family conflict perceived by fathers on the relationship between fathers’ playfulness and children’s playfulness. Specifically, the mediating effect of fathers’ play participation attitude and the moderating effect of work-family conflict perceived by fathers were examined in the relationship between fathers’ playfulness and children’s playfulness. A total of 304 people(fathers and children aged 4-6years) were used in the analysis. The data were analyzed for the moderated mediating effect between variables using SPSS 26.0 and SPSS PROCESS Macro. As a result of this study, the relationship between fathers’ playfulness and children’s playfulness was mediated by fathers’ play participation attitude. Also, work-family conflict perceived by fathers moderated the relationship between fathers’ playfulness and fathers’ play participation attitude. Lastly, work-family conflict perceived by fathers moderated mediation effect from fathers’ playfulness to children’s playfulness through the fathers’ play participation. These results indicate the importance of reducing the work-family conflict level because it is an factor that is highly correlated with the play participation attitude fathers show when they are with their child. Implications of these findings for parent counseling, education programs and systemizing ways to reduce levels of the work-family conflict are discussed.
