This sutdy is a decriptive study to investigate how to the violence experience and job stress affect psychiatric nurses’resilience during the COVID-19 epidemic.
Data were collected from 132 psychitric nurses for more than 6 months in G city, J city, G city, B city. The data collected period is from 16, November, 2021 to 3, December, 2021.
Data analysis used t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe’s test, Pearson’s correlation, and stepwise multiple regression analysis with SPSS 25.0.
The results of this study are as follows.
1. Variables that showed a significant difference in the experiences of violence were total clinical experience (F=2.921, p=.037), experience in coping with violence (t=-2.435, p=.016), and psychiatric work-related education program (t=-2.440, p=.016), and as a result of post-hoc testing in the type of institution (F=3.548, p=.016), general hospitals were higher than mental facilities. The variables that showed a significant difference in the subject''s job stress were age (F=4.072, p=.004), psychiatric work-related education program (t=-3.669, p=.001), and stress due to COVID-19 infection anxiety (t= 3.631, p=.001). The variable that showed a significant difference in the subjects'' resilience was the type of work (F=2.899, p=.025). As a result of the post-test, two-shift work was the highest, and the method of coping with violence (t=2.585, p=.011) was the highest. Resilience was found to be high in cases with psychiatric job satisfaction (F=8.003, p=.001).
2. As a result of analyzing the correlation between the subject''s experience of violence, job stress, and resilience, the experience of violence was found to have a statistically significant positive correlation with job stress (r = .430, p = .001).
3. Factors significantly affecting the resilience were work type (β=5.845, p=.030), violence coping method (β=6.706, p=.046), psychiatric job satisfaction (β=17.745, p= .001). The explanatory power of these factors for resilience was 20.1%.
As a result of this study, it was confirmed that there is a correlation between violence experience, job stress. Based on the results of this study, in order to increase the resilience of those who have experienced violence, it is important to develop an education program that can cope with violence, educate new employees to cope with violence, and to prepare legal actions and guidelines for organizations to deal with violence in the event of violence necessary.
