Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop and establish a hypothetical model, which included factors that have an effect on self care behavior of adult using the self-determination theory model for health by 2019 center and to verify the paths among the variables.
Method: Data were collected by questionnaire survey from 228 adult hypertensive patients in three medicine clinic from August to October 2020. Data were analyzed by SPSS WIN 22.0 and AMOS 22.0 program.
Result: Model fit indices for the hypothetical model showed good agreement (GFI=.90 and CFI=.99). The autonomy supportive health care climate, autonomy, competence and relatedness were factors that have a direct influence on the self care behavior of adult hypertensive patients. The autonomy supportive health care climate and illness perception had an indirect influence through autonomy, competence and relatedness. However, illness perception did not have a significant direct effect on self care behavior.
Conclusion: Autonomy, competence and relatedness that influence self care behavior of adult hypertensive patients are elevated by autonomy supportive health care climate. In order to promote self-care in adult hypertension patients, the autonomy supportive health care climate., autonomy, capability, and relationship should be increased and disease perception should considered. Above all, it provided a basis for the development of interventions and effective programs that increase the level of autonomy supportive health care climate.
