본 연구는 어머니의 공감능력이 영아의 정서지능에 미치는 영향에서 어머니의 양육행동이 매개역할을 하는지 알아보고자 하였다.

이를 위해 본 연구에서는 다음과 같이 연구문제를 설정하였다.

본 연구를 수행하기 위해 2021년 2월 20일부터 3월20일까지 경남 J시에 위치한 민간, 가정, 국공립 어린이집 15개에 재원 중인 영아 230명의 어머니를 대상으로 하여 설문을 실시하였으며 200부를 수거하여 그 중 189부를 기술통계분석을 실시하였다. 본 연구의 목적을 위하여 어머니의 양육행동을 알아보기 위해 어머니의 IPBI(Iowa Parent Behavior Inventory-MotherForm: Crase,Clark & Pease, 1978)를 토대로 홍계옥(1995)이 번역하고 수정한 IOWA 부모양육행동의 척도를 사용하였으며, 어머니의 공감능력의 척도는 Mehrabian과 Epstein의 정서 공감척도, Davis가 제작한 Interpersonal Reactivity Index: IRI검사, Bryant(1982)가 제작한 정서공감척도를 박성희(1994)가 번안한 척도를 사용 하였고 영아의 정서지능은 Salovey와 Mayer(1990, 1997) 및 Goleman(1995)의 이론을 근거로 김경희(1998)가 개발한 유아정서지능 척도를 김효진(2005)이 영아용으로 수정된 영아정서지능 척도를 사용했다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS 26.0을 사용하여 분석하였다.

본 연구의 요약한 결과를 보면 다음과 같다.
첫째, 어머니의 공감능력이 양육행동에 영향을 미쳤다.
둘째, 어머니의 공감능력이 영아의 정서지능에 영향을 미쳤다.
셋째, 어머니의 양육행동은 영아의 정서지능에 영향을 미쳤다.
넷째, 어머니의 공감능력이 영아의 정서지능에 미치는 영향으로 어머니의 양육 행동이 매개 효과가 있을 것이라는 가설을 검정하기 위하여 구조방정식모형을 실시하였고, 각 변인과의 관계를 살펴본 결과 어머니의 양육행동이 어머니의 공감능력과 영아의 정서지능에 매개역할을 하는데 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.

본 연구 결과는 어머니의 공감능력과 어머니의 양육행동이 영아의 내적인 정서지능 발달에 영향을 주는 중요한 변임임을 확인하였고 영아의 정서인식을 향상시킬 수 있도록 어머니의 공감능력 향상과 어머니의 양육 행동을 향상시킬 수 있는 여러 가지 부모프로그램과 상담프로그램이 많이 지원되고 개발이 필요하다는 것을 시사해 준다.

The Effects of Mother’s Empathy Ability on Infant’s Emotional Intelligence
: Focused on the Mediating Role of the Parenting Behavior

This study purpose to investigate the mediating role of mother’s parenting behavior in the effect of mother’s empathy ability on the infant’s emotional intelligence.

For this purpose, this study set the research questions as follows.
1. Does a mother’s empathy ability have an effect on mother’s parenting behavior?
2. Does mother’s empathy ability have an effect on the infant’s emotional intelligence?
3. Does mother’s parenting behavior have an effect on the infant’s emotional intelligence?
4. Does mother’s parenting behavior a mediating role in the effect of her empathy ability on the infant’s emotional intelligence?

To conduct this study, from February 20 through March 20, 2021, a survey was conducted with mothers of 230 infants in 15 home, national, and public daycare centers located in J. City, Gyeongsangnam-do private. 200 copies were collected, and with 189 copies, a descriptive statistical analysis was conducted. For the purpose of this study, to examine mother’s parenting behavior, the Iowa Parent Behavior Inventory-Mother Form (IPBI) adapted and modified by Hong (1995) based on the IPBI-Mother Form (Crase, Clark & Pease, 1978), and for the mother’s empathy ability scale, Mehrabian and Epstein’s emotional empathy scale, and Interpersonal Reactivity Index: IRI test developed by Davis, and the emotional empathy scale, adapted by Park (1994), which had been developed by Bryant (1982), and for infant’s emotional intelligence, the infants’ emotional intelligence scale modified and supplemented for infants by Kim (2005) was used, which had been developed by Kim (1998) based on the theories of Salovey and Mayer (1990, 1997) and Goleman (1995). The collected data were analyzed, using SPSS 26.0.
The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, the mother’s empathy ability had an effect on her parenting behavior. Second, mother’s empathy ability had an effect on the infant’s emotional intelligence. Third, mother’s parenting behavior had an effect on the infant’s emotional intelligence. Fourth, mother’s parenting behavior had a mediating effect in the effect of mother’s empathy ability on the infant’s emotional intelligence, an analysis was conducted with a structural equation model, and as a result of an examination of the relationships among the variables, it turned out that her parenting behavior played a mediating role in the effect of mother’s empathy ability on the infant’s emotional intelligence.
In the results of this study, it was found that a mother’s empathy ability and her parenting behavior were important variables affecting the development of the infant’s inner emotional intelligence, and it is suggested that it would be necessary to support and develop various programs and counseling programs for parents that could improve the mother’s empathy ability and enhance her parenting behavior to enhance the infant’s emotional recognition.
