This study aimed to examine the sequential dual mediating effects of parasocial relationship and peer attachment in the relationship between adolescents’ parasocial interaction, ego-identity and ego-resilience.
For this purpose, the survey was conducted on 728 students attending middle and high schools in Daegu city and Gyeongsangbuk-do province. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA, pearson correlation analysis, and path analysis with SPSS 25.0 and AMOS 23.0 program.
The major results of this study were as follows;
First, there were significant differences by gender in adolescents’parasocial interaction, parasocial relationship, and peer attachment. Also, there were significant differences by grade in adolescents’ego-identity and ego-resilience.
Second, there were significant positive correlations among adolescents’ parasocial interaction, parasocial relationship, peer attachment, ego-identity, and ego-resilience.
Third, adolescents’parasocial interaction had indirect effects on ego-identity and ego-resilience through parasocial relationship and peer attachment.
The findings of the study will contribute to designing various programs that can promote positive development of adolescents. Also, this study will help improve the parent-child relationship in adolescence by being used in parent education.
