(Abstract)
This study was conducted as part of the study of printing and publishing culture in the Gyeongju area of the Joseon Dynasty. Among them, 24 woodblock-printed books, including Gosachalyo(攷事撮要), compiled by Eosuk-kwon(魚叔權) in 1554, were analyzed. The subjects of the study are a total of 154 woodblocks, including those listed in the list of woodblocks and seven published by the Gyeongjubu. This included 122 woodblocks of the Gyeongjubu, and 32 woodblocks housed in Seowon or Buddhist temples.
To carry out this study, we first looked at the historical facts of Gyeongju and the printing and publishing culture of Gyeongju during the Silla and Goryeo periods. The publishing culture of Gyeongju was reviewed through literature records and real data, and the materials of the Silla period were referred to in the four sections of 『Beigejimookseudaebangwangwangwangbanghwaeumkyeong』(白紙墨書大方廣佛華嚴經), 『Mugujungkwangdaranikyeong』(無垢淨光陀羅尼經),『Seukyeong』(石經),and 『Hwangdongsakdakdanji』(皇龍寺金銅板塔誌). Also, refer to the 6 species of 『Jabidoliangchambeob』(慈悲道場懺法), 『Okcheonseunsaengsijib』(玉川先生詩集), 『Baekwhadorangbaliwenmunreahae』(白花道場發願文略解), 『Dalmadaeesakwansimron』(達磨大師觀心論), 『Jebangwongi』(帝王韻記) and 『Dangeamibongjib』(動安居士文集).
In addition, the wooden blocks found in the Gyeongju and Gyeongjubu of the Joseon Dynasty, which were included in the list of various woodblocks, including 『Gosachwalyo』, were analyzed in a bibliography, as well as those found in Seowon and Buddhist temples.
A list of 24 woodblocks containing 「Printing Woodblocks kept in Kyengju」 was divided into two categories before and after the Imjin War that is Japanese Invasion of Korea. Other 122 books judged by the Gyeongjubu were divided into two different types of engraving periods, 12 in the 14th century, 26 in the 15th and 16th centuries, 26 in the 16th and 59 in the 17th centuries. In addition, under ''Sabu Classification'', 28 species were classified into ''Kyengbu'', 40 species in ''Sabu'', 23 species in ''Jabu'', 24 species in ''Jibbu'' and 24 others. In addition, each bookcase was arranged alphabetically to analyze titles and engraving periods in a bibliography.
The number of woodblocks found in Seowon and Buddhist temples in Gyeongju was 21 in Seowon and 11 in Buddhist temples. They were divided by seowon and temple, and analyzed the titles and times of engraving. Woodblocks stored in Jeonghyesa only served as storage for woodblocks judged by Kyongjubu and Oksan Seowon.
A bibliographic analysis of 122 woodblocks engraved in Kyongjubu was carried out. The result revealed a total of 75 titles, with 14 from Kyengbu, 11 from Sabu, 20 from Jabu, 28 from Jibbu and two from other category.
Among the 75 species, the period of engraving has been revealed, with nine species of kyengbu, 11 kinds of Sabu, 12 kinds of jabu and 16 kinds of jibu, all 48 kinds. There were 24 types of guitar, including writing albums and signboards, and these wooden boards failed to discover the books printed on woodblocks, thus failing to disclose their bibliography.
The number of woodblocks whose titles were revealed amounts to 61 percent of the total, and about 40 percent of the woodblocks that were uncovered until the time of the engraving. Of the total 122 woodblocks determined by the Gyeongjubu, 48 were bibliologically fully analyzed, only about 40 percent. Therefore, it is thought that we should improve the completeness through a lot of research and effort.
As a feature of woodblocks engraved in Kyongjubu, there were four types of woodblocks divided by different streams, and nine were judged by the central government or by the order of an observer. And there were 10 different types of engraving using the status of local leader of th town. And 14 new woodblocks were found to have been carved.
The writings of Hoejae Leeyonjeog and Ikjae Leejehyon were found to have used both the woodblocks engraved in Keyongju and woodblocks carved in Seowon at the same time. This is believed to be an unusual case that is not found in other provinces.
During the Joseon Dynasty, most villages in the country had woodblocks and published books. Some of these books still remain to this day. These studies of books and literature can identify the quantity, type and existence of books actually published in each province. It should also serve as an opportunity to develop the printing and book culture of each region through this way.
