The purpose of this study is to understand the concept and characteristics of the block chain and to examine the effects and limitations of the introduction of the block chain technology in the logistics industry.
To achieve the purpose of the research, the qualitative research is conducted on existing literature, thesis, research report and the expert consultation.
This thesis consists of 5 chapters in total. Chapter 1 describes the background and purpose of the research, the research method and structure. Chapter 2 explains the concept, characteristics, and effects of the block chain as a whole. Chapter 3 explains the industry-specific impacts and application examples of the block chain technology.
Chapter 4 describes the effects of the introduction of the block chain technology and the limitations and problems related to commercialization. Chapter 5 describes the summary and implications of the study and future research directions.
The main results of the study are summarized as follows: It is expected that the block chain technology will be the smart trend for the payment data, transaction history tracking and that will be widely used in the distribution, and logistics fields either. In addition, since the stakeholder can share the data freely, the use of block chain is increasing overtime and it is expected that the logistics sector will be rapidly digitalized. One of the biggest problems of
existing logistics is that it is difficult to acquire, store and share real-time data due to complicated logistics processes and a large number of stockholders. If the logistics process can use complete digitization and can comply with block chain technology, it will be easier to create customer value and can be trustworthy. Nevertheless, there are many difficulties to be applied in business because of the lack of technical, legal, and institutional requirements. Therefore, further research can be extended by creating a new business model by establishing a block-chain ecosystem with continuous research and investment.
