This study focused on the relationship among social comparison orientation, self-absorption, irrational beliefs, job-seeking anxiety, and more specifically, the mediating effect of self-absorption and irrational beliefs in the relationship between social comparison orientation and job-seeking anxiety. For this, 465 college students in all parts of the country participated in this research.
Measuring tools included an adaptation of INCOM(Iowa-Netherlands Comparison Orientation Measures) in Korea, SDSAS(Scale for Dispositional Self-focused Attention in Social situation), GABS-K(General attitude and Belief scale-Korean), Scale for Job-seeking Anxiety, and the data were analyzed using structural equation model testing. The results revealed that: 1. social comparison orientation had positive correlation with self-absorption, irrational beliefs, job-seeking anxiety, and self-absorption had positive correlation with irrational beliefs, job-seeking anxiety, and irrational beliefs had positive correlation with job-seeking anxiety; and 2. self-absorption and irrational beliefs dually mediated the relationship between social comparison orientation and job-seeking anxiety. It can be speculated that applying the results of this study in actual consultations for college students, in the company of training programs to reduce their self-absorption and irrational beliefs, will effectively reduce their job-seeking anxiety.
